Eligibility for health benefits begins upon the
date of hire.
Eligible for coverage:

Beyond The Basics
Vacation:
Full-time
employees earn an average of three (3) weeks per
year. The hours are pro-rated for eligible part-time employees. The
rate of earning vacation increases, based upon the years of University
and/or State of California service (to a maximum of 5 weeks per year).
Sick Leave:
Employees earn an average of twelve (12) days per year (approximately
eight hours per month), which may be accumulated indefinitely. The
hours are prorated for eligible part-time employees.
Holidays: The
University observes thirteen (13) holidays per
year.

Life Insurance:
Career employees are provided a policy with coverage of
one times annual salary up to $50,000 at no cost.
DepCare: Employees
may enroll in this pre-tax salary reduction plan to
cover estimated dependent care expenses up to $5,000 a year.
Retirement Systems:
A pension is provided upon retirement and the percentage is determined
by length of service and age.
Additional Retirement
Plans: University-sponsored, defined
contribution pre-tax (401a), tax deferred (403b), and 457(b) plans and
other after
tax savings plans.
Disability: Basic
plan at no cost with a benefit of 55 percent of
monthly salary up to $800 per month for 6 months. One additional plan
is available which provides benefits beyond that point.
Accidental Death &
Dismemberment: Employee-paid plan provides
coverage between $10,000 to $500,000.
Health Care Reimbursement
Account (HCRA): Allows qualifying employees to pay on a
pre-tax, salary reduction basis for eligible health care expenses not
covered by your medical, dental, or vision plans.
Auto, Property &
Casualty Insurance: Employee-paid plan covers cars
and other vehicles, homes and apartments, through payroll deduction.
Tuition Reduction:
Two-thirds registration fee reduction for University
classes and 25 percent reduction for Extension classes.
Credit Union:
University Credit Union offers a variety of financial
services such as savings and checking accounts, IRA plans, MasterCard,
ATM networks, lines-of-credit, and loans.
Transportation:
Computer vanpool system assigns 25 passenger maxi-vans
or 6-passenger mini-vans to five surrounding counties. Local city buses
provide free passes for UCLA employees.
